Structure of the units

Each unit in the Amplify Science TK curriculum begins with an Introductory Activity that introduces a phenomenon. The Introductory Activity is followed by a series of three Explorations—each Exploration is comprised of a Kickoff Discussion, four activities, and a Shared Drawing and Discussion—in which students investigate to collect evidence that will help them construct an understanding of the phenomenon. Each unit ends with a Culminating Activity that consolidates students’ understanding. For a visual representation of the flow of instructional activities, see the Transitional Kindergarten Curriculum Structure diagram.

Depending on class schedules and configurations, each unit can be implemented in a variety of instructional formats. (For additional information about how to personalize a unit, see the Flexible Implementation section.) Each instructional activity is designed to span approximately 15 minutes. Depending on the implementation options chosen, teaching the entire unit will take approximately 4–6 weeks.
