Big Book

Each Amplify Science TK unit includes an original informational text written by the Lawrence Hall of Science. The oversized books facilitate teachers’ implementation of Read-Alouds and group discussions around the content and pictures in the book. Inherent in Read-Alouds are opportunities to model reading strategies and support language development. The books are filled with vivid color photographs to enhance learning and support students’ firsthand investigations. Each book is an integral part of instruction and is used multiple times and for multiple purposes across a unit.

Science Questions

Each unit includes three printed Science Question cards, one for each Exploration of the unit. The printed cards are posted on the classroom wall and support the class as they are introduced to and revisit the focus of their investigations over the course of an Exploration and, ultimately, the unit.

Vocabulary Cards

Each unit includes six or seven printed vocabulary cards. Vocabulary cards are also posted on the classroom wall as they are introduced throughout the unit.

Picture Cards

Each unit includes a set of picture cards with colorful photographs and/or illustrations. The picture cards are used for a variety of purposes (e.g., gathering evidence, building background knowledge, introducing the focal phenomenon) throughout a unit.
