Learn more about Amplify CKLA 3rd Edition’s assessments:

Print assessments

Amplify CKLA 3rd Edition’s print assessments consist of daily informal assessments embedded within the lessons and formative assessments that provide an understanding of individual student and whole-class mastery of lesson materials, as well as optional summative assessments given at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Print assessments include:

  • Check for Understanding

  • Formative Assessments

  • Summative assessments

    • End-of-unit/domain assessments

    • Student performance assessments

Check for Understanding

Check for Understanding assessments are activities integrated into daily lessons that allow teachers to monitor progress on each primary focus objective and adjust instruction as needed.

For example, a Check for Understanding might happen during a lesson about nursery rhymes, in which the teacher introduces the concept of rhyming in general, as well as nursery rhymes specifically. In the Check for Understanding, the teacher would direct students to give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down in answer to three questions about nursery rhymes.

Some Check for Understanding activities can also be a great tool for providing support to multilingual/English learners in developing their oral language skills.

Formative Assessments

Formative Assessments allow teachers to see how individual students understand the lesson and they can also inform small group instruction. These assessments are linked to a standard covered by the lesson. Continuing with our previous example, a Formative Assessment in the nursery rhyme lesson might have the student draw the main characters from nursery rhymes they have studied in the lesson.

Student performance assessments (Grades 3–5)

Set goals and monitor student growth with student performance assessments administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to ensure student advancement toward grade-level goals.

Digital assessments

Amplify CKLA 3rd Edition’s digital assessments consist of summative assessments that measure progress toward learning goals. Digital assessments include:

  • Knowledge end-of-domain assessments (Grades K–2)

  • End-of-unit assessments (Grades 3–5)

Knowledge end-of-domain assessments (Grades K–2)

Knowledge end-of-domain assessments are designed to provide individualized insights into students’ conceptual understanding at key moments throughout the year. These assessments are designed to track student performance and give you the data you need to meet the needs of all your students. These assessments are available digitally for students in Grades K–2 (starting at Domain 7 for kindergarten).

Assigning assessments

Teachers can assign assessments to any active class. Navigate to the assessment and click @ Assign. See Assigning and single session codes for more information.

End-of-unit assessments (Grades 3–5)

End-of-unit assessments are typically the last lesson of a unit. These summative assessments were designed to provide a clear way to document student learning outcomes over the course of a given unit. In the end-of-unit assessments, students engage with rigorous content so educators can gain insight into the skills and knowledge students have mastered. These assessments are available digitally for students in Grades 3–5.

Auto-scored assessments

You can track students’ mastery of standards and content with assessments that measure vocabulary, comprehension, and knowledge development within each unit. Assessments are automatically scored by the platform to provide immediate insights into progress and identify opportunities to tailor instruction based on needs.

Assessment reporting

Assessment reports provide teachers with the information they need to meet students’ needs. Teachers can examine student and class performance with reports that show strengths and growth opportunities for individual students, small groups, or the entire class. The interactive dashboards provide detailed results from assessments and activities. For more details, see Assessment Report.

This example report shows an at-a-glance overview of how a class scored by item on an end-of-domain assessment, plus an expanded view of the score distribution, highlighting correct answers.
