How can districts integrate Clever with Desmos Classroom?

Updated over 4 months ago

Clever is a third-party enrollment source used for two purposes:

  • As a provider of Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication for logging into Desmos Classroom.

  • As a secure automated rostering system that integrates and syncs with school and district Student Information Systems (SIS). District administrators will not need to manually invite teachers to the Desmos Math 6–A1 curriculum; that process happens automatically through Clever.

The information in this article assumes that your district has already worked with Amplify to determine that Clever is the best option to meet your enrollment needs.

If you have not made this determination, see Options for Rostering in Desmos Math 6–A1 to review your enrollment options. You can learn more about Clever and access learning resources for district administrators in the Clever help center. (opens in new tab)

For administrators

The Desmos Classroom app is not publicly available in the Clever marketplace, but an invitation to add the app can be sent to a Desmos Math district upon request.

The setup process for Desmos Classroom is separate from other Amplify products.

To set up Clever for Desmos Classroom:

1) Provide the following information to your Desmos Coach so that we can begin the setup process:

  • The name and email address of the district’s technology person who will be setting up the data share.

  • A list of all schools that will be using Desmos.

  • The date that the district will begin sharing data (launch date).

  • A list of all email domains being used by students and teachers.

2) You’ll receive an invitation from Desmos Classroom to share your Clever data.

3) Once that invitation is accepted, you’ll be able to set up data sharing to enable automatic syncing of roster information for all schools and classes that will be using Desmos Math 6–A1.

Notes about data sharing:

  • We recommend sharing only one semester or trimester of data at a time to minimize confusion for teachers and students.

  • Only choose the campuses and courses that will be using Desmos Math 6–A1.

  • Classes will be rostered in Desmos with the same students and co-teachers as in Clever.

  • Adding co-teachers:

    • If the co-teacher is assigned to a class in the Student Information System, Clever will automatically import them as a co-teacher in Desmos.

    • If a co-teacher is not assigned to a class in the SIS, districts can add co-teachers manually in Clever. These teachers will then automatically be added as co-teachers in Desmos when the data is shared. Learn more about how to add co-teachers. (opens in new tab)

4) Create a login link on your district’s landing page. Learn more about how to add hyperlinks. (opens in new tab)

If your district uses an SSO other than Clever to sign in (such as Classlink), you will need to add the Desmos Classroom icon to your landing page and link it to your Clever Instant Login. If you don’t have your Clever Instant Login link, contact your Desmos Coach.

5) Share log-in information with teachers and students. For automatic rostering to happen, teachers and students must log in by clicking on the Desmos Classroom icon on their district’s Clever portal/landing page (rather than going directly to teacher.desmos.com or student.desmos.com).

Once the setup is complete, rosters are synced nightly, beginning on the launch date.

For teachers

Teachers using Clever with Desmos Classroom must log in by clicking the Desmos Classroom icon on their district’s Clever portal/landing page (rather than going directly to teacher.desmos.com).

This will automatically grant them access to Desmos Math 6–A1 if the school or district they are associated with in Clever has a curriculum license.

The Clever integration will automatically sync classes from Clever into Desmos Classroom. These classes will be available when teachers log into Desmos Classroom from the Clever portal:

Classes will be imported with the same students and co-teachers as in Clever. If you need to add additional co-teachers, teachers should contact their district technology administrator for guidance.

Activities can be assigned to Clever classes from the activity landing page.

For students

Students using Clever with Desmos Classroom must log in by clicking the Desmos Classroom icon on their district’s Clever portal/landing page (rather than going directly to student.desmos.com).

Students will be rostered in any classes they are a member of in Clever. They will also be able to see and join assignments that have been posted to those classes.
