Flexible units in each grade include Poetry in America lessons along with Digital Novel Guides.

Amplify has partnered with Poetry in America to offer a series of lessons that facilitate rich classroom discussions and build students’ engagement and knowledge about the language and elements of poetry. Each activity in these lessons aligns with one of the four pillars of reading poetry: making observations, understanding structure and form, situating texts in history, or enjoying language. These units offer clear guidance on teaching and discussing the poem and center on engagement and discussion.

Each Poetry in America three-lesson sub-unit allows students to fully explore a poet’s choices around form and language and to try on the poet’s use of language, craft, and structure in creative writing assignments tailored to the targeted poem. The sub-unit overviews provide information about big ideas and discussion techniques.

Digital Novel Guides are adapted from the Novel Guide PDFs in the Amplify Library. Each guide is a five-lesson sub-unit that covers different sets of reading, writing, and speaking skills. Click here to learn more about Digital Novel Guides.
