Amplify ELA: Polls

The poll feature and how to use it with students

Updated over a week ago

Polls appear throughout Amplify ELA lessons. These interactive activities allow teachers a quick check on student thinking without having them raise their hands. Polls often lead to rich discussions and help to extend student thinking.

You can access poll results by clicking on the Poll icon seen below.

After clicking this icon, you will see a bar graph featuring the results of the poll. Plan to project this screen for your students and discuss the results. Have students share their reasons for selecting a specific response and discuss any evidence that might support their thinking.

Poll activities look like this on the student card. Students click their response, knowing that they will discuss their responses and that what they’ve selected is anonymous.

In short, polls offer a wonderful opportunity to boost engagement and promote rich discussion.
