Frequently Asked Questions

What is a QR Code?

A QR ("quick response") code is a unique barcode that stores your students' individual login information; a camera-enabled device scans the code to instantly log your students into their accounts.

How do I allow camera access on my device?

Instructions for changing camera permissions vary by supported browser and device. Please refer to our Customer Requirements for browser and device requirements.

Chrome (Mac, PC, or Chromebook)

The first time a student tries to log in using a QR code, the browser should display a prompt asking the student to allow or block camera access for QR code login. Just click Allow to activate the camera and log in.

If no browser prompt displays, try these steps:

  1. Go to chrome://settings/content/camera.

  2. Make sure that Ask before accessing is on.

  3. Check the Block list. If learning.amplify.com is on that list, click the Trash icon next to it.

Note: You will need to refresh your browser page for any permissions changes to take effect. Upon reloading learning.amplify.com, you will be prompted to approve camera access and should click Allow.

Safari on Mac

The first time a student tries to log in using a QR code, the browser should display a prompt asking the student to allow or block camera access for QR code login. Just click Allow to activate the camera and log in.

If no browser prompt displays, try these steps:

  1. Click the Safari menu and select Preferences.

  2. Click the Websites tab.

  3. Click Camera in the General list on the left.

  4. Select Allow from the permissions drop-down list.

Note: You will need to refresh your browser page for any permissions changes to take effect. Upon reloading learning.amplify.com, you will be prompted to approve camera access and should click Allow.

Safari on iPad

The first time a student tries to log in using a QR code, the browser should display a prompt asking the student to allow or block camera access for QR code login. Just tap Allow to activate the camera. Then, log in.

If no browser prompt displays, try these steps:

  1. Open Settings > Safari.

  2. Make sure camera access is set to Allow.

Note: You will need to refresh your browser page for any permissions changes to take effect. Upon reloading learning.amplify.com, you will be prompted to approve camera access and should tap Allow.

Why am I getting an error message?

Note: QR code login is only available for use on supported devices with camera access. Only iPad 5 and later and iOS 13 and later are supported.

These are a few reasons why students might see an error message when trying to use the QR code login:

Unsupported or non-camera device

If the student is using an incompatible device, or if the device does not have a camera, the browser will display an error message. Please refer to our Customer Requirements for more information on device requirements.

Camera access denied

If the browser has previously been blocked from using the device camera, the browser will display an error message.

Why is my camera not scanning the QR code?

Non-Amplify QR code

Only Amplify QR login cards are valid for QR login to Amplify programs. Scanning anything else will result in an error.

QR code is not in the target area

To successfully log in, all four corners of the QR code must be within the camera's view. The corner borders on the QR login card should line up with the corner borders on the screen.

Printed QR card is damaged

Damage to printed QR cards (such as tears, stains, or markings) can cause issues when trying to log in. We recommend laminating printed login cards to prevent damage.

How can I reset my students’ QR codes?

Resetting QR codes in Amplify programs is easy! Just open the Class Settings page in your Teacher Dashboard, and click either Reset (for individual students) or Reset All (for your entire class) to quickly reset your students’ QR codes.
